Nate Boerkircher's selection by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round is not exactly going over like gangbusters with fans of the franchise, most of whom are upset that they feel like they could have picked him up later on. All you need to do is take a look at the comments of a post like this and you'll see how the supposed reach by the Jags has fans up in arms.

The teams that win on draft night, though, are the teams that move decisively to get the guys they know are the right fit for them. Boerkircher is clearly a guy that the Jaguars feel like is that kind of fit for them, even if fans don't feel like it. However, those fans that feel that way are overlooking one simple thing about their new head coach, Liam Coen.

One simple factor makes sense of Nate Boerkircher pick by Jacksonville Jaguars in second round

Liam Coen's most illustrious years in the college game came as the offensive coordinator of the Kentucky Wildcats up with Mark Stoops in Lexington. UK was not well-known for offense outside of the years where Coen was the OC, but he brought a toughness and physicality to that side of the ball that profited the Wildcats highly.

And what was a staple of his offense? A true dual-threat tight end that can block his tail off and catch the ball with the best of them. That is the exact profile that Boerkircher fits for the Jaguars, and it is clearly the reason that Coen felt like he needed to be the pick for Jacksonville this high up.

When utilized correctly, the TE position can stress a defense like no other. Not knowing whether a player will be blocking or passing before the snap up on the line can provide a huge sense of uncertainty on the defensive side of the ball, and if your tight end is only proficient at one or the other, it is a huge tell.

Boerkircher does not have that issue in the slightest. He will be the exact kind of tight end that Coen needs, and will help take the Jacksonville offense to the next level next year.
