Texas A&M was ranked at No. 3 in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season. Some ESPN analysts were surprised that Texas A&M stuck to No. 3. The Aggies' strength of schedule looked as tough as it gets. Ohio State, being the defending champions, might have to slip up against a bad opponent or lose to Michigan for Texas A&M to move up at all.

For the past month, Mike Elko has been a name involved in the Penn State sweepstakes, thanks to the firing of James Franklin after by far the worst loss in his tenure with the Nittany Lions. Josh Pate, one of the more popular college football podcasters out there, talked about Mike Elko and his future.

While Elko has some familarity up in the Northeast, it doesn't matter. Pate says that Elko will stay an Aggie, and Penn State will have to look elsewhere, while the Aggies have bigger fish to fry.

Josh Pate assures Mike Elko will stay with Texas A&M next season

"You know where else (Elko) is a good fit? College Station, Texas, or most any place they're serious about football. My official stance on Mike Elko is, I think Mike Elko is going to be the head coach of Texas A&M next year and will be mildly to moderately shocked if he's not. "

It makes sense, right? Elko is from New Jersey and went to school in Pennsylvania. He's clearly built an empire with Texas A&M, with multiple five-star athletes committing to him, and he's not done with that.

Elko recently told a reporter that he thought it was hilarious how some media people cover coaches. One moment, he's fired. Another moment, he's the best fit for the Penn State job. Elko made fun of the idea by basically saying it's all nonsense.

This should assure that Elko is here to stay. Any silly rumors should be completely shoved aside.
