Texas A&M fans are hoping to see Marcel Reed make a huge jump from last year to this one, given that the offense in general needs a little more downfield explosion— something which OC Collin Klein seems excited about. That is all incumbent upon Marcel's ability, of course, to take that next step.
The truest testing ground that the Aggie QB will face in the first half of the season is a road game up in South Bend, Indiana, when the Ags take on Notre Dame in week 3. There were quite a few fans of the belief that, had A&M started Reed from the beginning of the season, the Aggies would have defeated ND in week one of 2024, so this will be a great litmus test for just how true that belief is.
Of course, both teams are far different than they were last year. Notre Dame is still in the midst of a QB battle to replace Riley Leonard, one which Aggie fans have been following closely— and the latest intel is something that could end up providing A&M's QB1 a little extra motivation.
Notre Dame's QB battle could provide Marcel Reed extra motivation for pivotal matchup
The latest piece of intel from On3 suggests that Kenny Minchey, not CJ Carr, could be the guy with the upper hand in South Bend.
INTEL: Kenny Minchey has a slight edge over CJ Carr in Notre Dame's QB battle, @PeteNakos_ reports.

Minchey may be a new name to Aggie fans, but Reed should be quite familiar with him. Both Minchey and Reed are from Tennessee and graduated in the same year. However, Minchey was ranked ahead of Reed in the composite ratings, coming in as the 3rd-best Tennessee recruit and Marcel as the 5th-best.
I'm sure Reed is not a guy who was too burnt up over recruiting rankings by any stretch of the imagination— he's a guy who's focused on his own improvement and team— he's also a top-shelf competitor. That in mind, I think he could enter this game intending to show that he is, in fact, the better quarterback of the two.
We haven't seen any extended in-game stretches from Minchey, of course, but it looks like, with the tide turning in this quarterback battle, we could see that soon. Whoever wins the ND quarterback battle will have to get through Miami first, but if the Aggies are facing off against Minchey in South Bend in week 3, you can bet that Reed will be out to prove that he's the better QB.
