Texas A&M baseball takes first series of season thanks to LaViolette's fireworks at plate
Texas A&M baseball has finally begun what is probably the most anticipated season in program history. The Aggies, sitting at a unanimous no. 1 in the polls, swept Elon in the three-game weekend series to start the year off 3-0.
The first game was a bit closer than most Aggie fans would have liked, with a surprisingly talented Elon pitcher able to give the Phoenix some quality frames against a powerful Aggie lineup. That pitching prowess wouldn't last into the closing frames, however, as the Aggies powered ahead to win 4-2.
It was the next game where the Aggie bats really woke up in earnest. After a close game the night before, the Ags unloaded to run rule the Phoenix, capped off by Jace LaViolette's grand slam to put A&M up 10.

That was his second homer of the day after he knocked one out of the park at his first plate appearance as well.
LaViolette wasn't the only Aggie to drive in four runs with a single hit this weekend. Kaeden Kent, son of former major leaguer Jeff Kent, knocked in a grand slam of his own in the third game.

Jacob Galloway, a transfer catcher from USC, hit a homer of his own to put the Aggies up 10 not long afterwards.
This is a phenomenal way to get the season started for the Aggies, even if it is just Elon. LaViolette already looks to have taken a step forward, Prager was dealing in the first start, and Myles Patton looked like he has some excellent stuff as well.
The Aggies host McNeese on Tuesday before a weekend series with Cal Poly a week from now.
