Texas A&M basketball was in some real hot water against the Ole Miss Rebels. Chris Beard's squad had come out against the Aggies with a fury, leading by double digits at different points during the game and leaving the Ags looking stunned.
A&M's usual horses weren't running at full speed, either. It was a poor jump-shooting night from the floor for Wade Taylor, and Zhuric Phelps didn't seem himself in many respects.
But as the game wore on, Texas A&M basketball's physicality began to wear on the Rebels. Though some well-timed threes got the crowd in Oxford excited, A&M kept things close thanks to tough buckets from Pharell Payne, Andersson Garcia, and the rest of the Aggies' supporting cast.
That comeback would lead to a flurry of plays in the final minute, as A&M forced a ten-second violation, stole the ball on an inbounds under the Rebels basket and forced a goaltend on a runout play, and finally began fouling only down two.
The Rebs made their first pair, but Zhuric Phelps wasted no time in getting down the floor, scoring in a matter of seconds. Then, when A&M fouled, Ole Miss clanked the first from the charity stripe— and it was Manny Obaseki's time to shine.
Manny Obaseki calls game with clutch three-pointer to cap Texas A&M basketball's comeback over Ole Miss Rebels
Talk about the clutch bucket to end all clutch buckets. This was a masterclass from Obaseki: don't let the moment get to you, just catch and shoot.
This is a legacy-defining moment for Obaseki, who has begun to really come on as a huge contributor for this team after struggling for a few years. A highly-ranked guy out of high school, Manny has really bought into Buzz's program, and is now a key piece of what the Aggies are doing.
It's so awesome to see it pay off like this. What a moment for Manny and Aggie fans everywhere.
