It's easy to see why College Station was an attractive destination for transfer wideouts this past offseason. The Aggies flirted with the postseason all year in the nation's deepest conference, they have no shortage of money to spend on worthy athletes, and whoever stepped in had the ability to immediately carve out the role of the team's top target.
But for KC Concepcion it went beyond the money and the opportunity, it was the authenticity of the program that helped put pen to paper.
"Everything was so real to me," Concepcion said. "I had conversations with Coach Elko and he wasn't bs-ing me. I had conversations with [coach] Wiggins, [coach] Klein. I felt like everyone here respects each other and it feels like a family here — so why not be a part of that?"
KC Concepcion came to College Station to run conference's best offense along with Marcel Reed
The former three-star recruit out of Charlotte, North Carolina, hit the ground running in his collegiate career — racking up 839 yards and 10 touchdowns while being the focal point of NC State's passing attack. After an underwhelming sophomore season, both individually and as a team, Concepcion made the difficult decision to transfer and took visits to Texas A&M, Alabama, Colorado and Miami.
A&M was Concepcion's last visit of the transfer window, and it was also the shortest. While he knew there was a good chance he'd wear the maroon and white in 2025, he also had his reservations coming in.
"I'm not going to lie, coming here I didn't know Marcel and I was hearing that Marcel wasn't really a good passer," Concepcion said. "But when I came up on the visit here he surprised me on the first day. Like this is the same kid that everyone said couldn't throw the ball?"

Seeing his potential new quarterback throw in-person made the decision that much easier. He remembers a deep corner throw during practice where Reed fit the ball in perfectly to his target in double coverage.
"I was like 'dang, he can actually spin it,'" Concepcion said. "I feel like a lot of people really don't know that about him."
Now here at fall camp, Concepcion is ready to play a massive role in the projected coming-out party for his new quarterback. He has a lot of goals while at College Station: to be the best wideout in the SEC, to be a vocal leader in the locker room, and play for both a conference and national championship. When asked for his message to the 12th Man with a month to go until the season, Concepcion kept it short and sweet:
"Get your popcorn ready."
