Marcel Reed’s record against the Texas Longhorns is not exactly what Aggie fans would want, sitting winless in two games, but that hasn’t stopped the Aggies’ QB1 from sounding off on what he wants out of this matchup this year. Reed didn’t hold back in a recent quote about how he feels about Texas, and it’s something that every Aggie fan can really get behind.

That’s exactly the kind of confidence and overall attitude you want to see out of your QB1 when it comes to a rivalry matchup like this. Reed may be from Tennessee originally, but this kind of quote shows that he not only understands the rivalry— he has fully embraced it and what it means to this fanbase.
This is the kind of thing that will enrage Texas fans, of course. Their arrogance and overall attitude will have them spewing all kinds of invective against Marcel for even daring to mention them in a quote like this, but that only belies the worry they all feel about having to face off with the Aggies in Kyle Field this fall.

You don’t have to look far in the comments to see this exact thing happening— Texas fans can’t handle this kind of thing very well, and they’re already showing that with their overreaction to this quote.
It is an overreaction, of course— this is the kind of thing that most reasonable fans would understand and appreciate. It’s a healthy rivalry when players like Reed, who aren’t even originally from the area, can come in and take this kind of attitude with things.
This also is yet another reason that Reed and Mike Elko are going to have to be ready on November 27. You understand what happened in year one under Elko, but last year was a game that, flat out, the Aggies should have won. That was largely thanks to one of Reed’s worst games of the year— so he needs to be ready to shine rather than dim in that big moment this year.
Of course, getting the game in Kyle Field this year matters quite a bit. The Aggies looked like they were befuddling Texas at every turn two years ago when the Longhorns tried to get any sort of offense going, but it was a battered and bruised— and far less skilled— offense for the Aggies that ended up costing them that one.
The closeness of that one can be attributed to the environment that the game was taking place in, so with a far better and more experienced team this season, the Aggies should be in a good spot to take out some revenge come November 27. Reed looks like he’s already got the right attitude about it, whether or not Longhorn fans like it.
