Mel Kiper's laughable Texas A&M pessimism is getting ridiculous at this point

At some point, too much becomes too much— and one of ESPN's top draft writers has reached that point with the Aggies.

Texas A&M is on the verge of a historic NFL Draft season, with anywhere between thirteen to fifteen players potentially draftable from the Maroon and White— but most projections see the Aggies having around ten to twelve players selected when all is said and done. That's not an airtight consensus, but it would be surprising to see the final number end up outside of that range to either side.

One of the more interesting debates on this topic for Aggie fans is how many players they will have selected in the first round— one or two? There are at least three players from the Maroon and White that could end up in the first 32 picks— KC Concepcion, Cashius Howell, and Chase Bisontis— but with team needs being what they are, it's unlikely that we see more than two selected.

Mel Kiper of ESPN, however, has decided to bravely forge his own path in projecting where Texas A&M players will land, as he continues to shut the Aggies out of the first round in his mock drafts. In this morning's projection for ESPN, Kiper doesn't have a single A&M player being selected until the Texans' second-round selection, all the way down at 38th.

Mel Kiper's Texas A&M hate in mock draft projection is becoming laughably obvious

Kiper went viral last year for going on a rant when his projected no. 5 player overall wasn't selected until pick 144, perhaps showing just how in touch he really is with the thinking of NFL front offices at this point in his career. In any case, it seems unthinkable at this point that no Aggies at all will be selected until the second round.

Chase Bisontis is a player who has been on a meteoric rise up draft boards as of late, and he could well land within the first round, according to several outlets. Cashius Howell is another player who, despite some poor results at the NFL combine, has a lot of the numbers on his side— he did lead the SEC in sacks this past year, after all.

Then, there's KC Concepcion, who is a classic first-year breakout receiver in the NFL. He's a guy who does nothing but put his head down and work at his craft, and it pays off when the lights come on. He is a clear candidate for an early selection, despite Kiper slotting him 41st overall to the New Orleans Saints.

I have a feeling that Aggie fans will see Kiper's lack of accuracy in projection on display once more this NFL draft season, as his reluctance to place any A&M players in the first round will look pretty foolish when all is said and done. This is going to be a historic draft season for the Aggies, no matter whether Kiper chooses to recognize it or not.
