You'd be hard-pressed to find a spot recently where Texas A&M football has lost out on a high-leverage recruitment. The Aggies have been absolutely cleaning up on the recruiting trail recently, notching win after win as they continue to build what will be a massive haul in the class of 2026.
The Aggies have been rocking their official visit schedule, as there have not been many cases where a top target has visited College Station and has exited without either committing while in Aggieland or directly after. However, that streak may have come to an end with two recent recruitments going a way that the A&M staff may not have wanted them to.
Though the Ags are building a rock-solid class on the offensive line, consisting currently of Avery Morcho, Samuel Roseborough, and Zaden Krempin, there are two targets that they recently hosted that ended up elsewhere. Has Mike Elko finally had a swing and a miss?
Texas A&M's hot recruiting streak cools off slightly after Evers and Thomas pledge elsewhere
Three-star offensive tackle Aaron Thomas was thought to be a heavy Aggie lean headed into his decision day yesterday. However, by the time he committed, all the momentum was with the Ohio State Buckeyes, where he ended up pledging.
Even though just a three-star, Thomas is identified as a guy who can make a huge leap in the rankings soon, and so this was a battle the Aggies wanted. Look no further than the team that beat them out: the reigning national champions also had this guy as a huge priority.
The other one was a bit more surprising. Drew Evers, an interior offensive lineman from the Dallas area, had been recruited by the Aggies and Penn State for some time. However, when he announced his pledge today, it took a lot of fans aback.

It's not often you see a player like this pick SMU over power programs, but now that the Ponies are in the ACC, things are a little bit different. If they're going to get a guy like this, too, it would be from the Dallas area.
The Aggies still have several fish on the line, of course. A&M is heavily involved with a couple of highly-rated offensive line prospects that they could reel in here soon— but it's a bit of a momentum setback to have these two go the wrong way. I have faith that Mike Elko and company will bounce back quickly, though.
