Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is a name that a few people have floated in connection with the Penn State job opening. It mostly seems that it has to do with him being from the Northeast originally and the success he's having while at Texas A&M, but there's really no solid reason otherwise.

Still, though, when it's coaching carousel season like this, you have to expect some questions to get asked about this kind of thing. There's no real chance that Penn State ends up getting him, but reporters will still come forward and put the question to him just in case.

That's exactly what happened at today's press conference, when Elko was asked about how he handles being linked to a job like this. He decided to provide a pretty fiery answer in response, showing that he feels pretty strongly about being linked to an opening like this one.

Here's the full quote from coach Elko:

"I don't discuss it with my players. I think it's absolutely hilarious how you guys cover coaches. I think three weeks ago, I was getting fired, now I'm getting hired, now you don't want me to stay, but I'm leaving— like, it's just absolutely hilarious, it is a waste of brain space to spend any time talking or thinking about any of that stupidity."

Well, while he didn't say definitively that he wasn't considering the job, he certainly made his thoughts known on how coaches are covered in the media!

It doesn't make any sense for him to take the Penn State job at this point, really, so despite him not saying "no, I am not considering this job" (which no good coach would do, as it would sacrifice any leverage they have to get a raise), there's no reason for fans to worry. He's got things rolling in a huge way down in College Station, and he's going to be the man for years yet to come.
