Mike Elko met with the media for the first time since the Aggies' season concluded, and he had a lot to say about the way this Aggie program has changed since that time. Not only have there been a lot of additions via the transfer portal, the Aggies have also had quite a bit of turnover up and down the staff over the last month and a half.

While he went into depth about several of those transfer players and the coaches that the Aggies have added, it was a remark that he slipped in earlier in the presser that caught the attention of a lot of fans that were listening. When discussing the talent that was leaving the Aggies and headed to the NFL Draft, Elko hinted at something historic happening for Texas A&M when it's time for the 32 NFL franchises to get on the clock.

Mike Elko hints at historically high number of NFL Draft selections for Texas A&M this spring

Elko's comments raised some eyebrows when he was asked about commenting on the nation-leading number of NFL Combine invitees, saying that he believed the Aggies could have more players selected in the NFL Draft this spring than the program has had since 1971.

Later in the presser, he got more specific, saying he believed it would be at least ten players from the maroon and white that would have their names called in the upcoming draft. Only two programs reached that mark last year, so this would put the Aggies at or among the very top schools in this mark in 2026.

Could Texas A&M reach this record-setting mark or higher? If all 13 players that were invited to the Combine end up meriting consideration, it seems pretty likely. There could be even some other players, not invited to the Combine, that could end up being selected— guys like Tyreek Chappell.

Texas A&M is set for an eye-catching NFL Draft, no matter what. Hopefully, Elko makes good on yet another promise here.
