Mike Elko singles out three Texas A&M football players as breakout candidates in interview

Texas A&M football head coach Mike Elko has not shied away from the media in his time in College Station thus far. He has been far more accessible than previous coaches, without a doubt, and that often means that he is giving some insight into the program that fans didn't used to have.

During a recent sitdown with Texags, Elko was asked by Billy Liucci about some names that Aggie fans should be aware of that are being under-discussed at the moment. The A&M head man gave three for Aggie fans to watch— let's break them down.

Three players Mike Elko wants Texas A&M football fans to watch: Ashton Bethel-Roman

Position: WR
Class: Redshirt Freshman
High School Rating: Four-star

Ashton Bethel-Roman was a guy that the Aggies were able to bring into the fold very late in the 2024 cycle. A longtime Arkansas commit, Bethel-Roman hadn't given A&M too much of a look until the hiring of Mike Elko.

The head man for Texas A&M football ended up bringing ABR in on a visit right before signing day, and he ended up flipping to the Aggies from the Razorbacks. That eleventh-hour maneuver looks like it may pay huge dividends here, as the buzz around Bethel-Roman has been palpable even dating back to the end of last season. With these latest comments from Elko, I'm thinking we see Bethel-Roman play a huge role in the WR rotation next year.

Three players Mike Elko wants Texas A&M football fans to watch: Solomon Williams

Position: DE
Class: Redshirt Freshman
High School Rating: Four-star

Williams's story is actually almost identical to Ashton Bethel-Roman's as far as the Aggies' pursuit of him. The DE from Florida was committed to the Gators initially, but a late charge from both A&M and Nick Saban's Alabama gave him a lot to think about.

He obviously ended up choosing the Aggies when all was said and done, marking a huge first recruiting victory in the Elko era. He didn't see a lot of playing time this past season given the backlog of talent along the defensive line, but Elko's comments have me optimistic about what we could see out of him in 2025.

Three players Mike Elko wants Texas A&M football fans to watch: Myles Davis

Position: S
Class: Redshirt Freshman
High School Rating: Four-star

Davis stands out from the past two in several ways: first of all, he was a longtime Aggie commit as compared to a last-minute flip, and second, he was an in-state prospect. A&M had to battle the Longhorns for his signature, but the Aggies obviously ended up with the pledge of the San Antonio product.

The redshirt freshman DB has already put a highlight on tape with a huge hit he laid down in mop-up duty against McNeese— one that had Aggie fans talking even in the second game of the year. He didn't see much more action than that, but with several safeties moving on for the Aggies, I think we see his role increase quite a bit headed into 2025.
