It's no secret that there are a few positions of concern for Texas A&M football headed into 2025, despite a lot of the optimism that's surrounding the program from fans. The Aggies are a little bit slept on in the media for various reasons even though fans see that this could be a big year— but even those fans are concerned with a few positions.
Chief among those positions is that of defensive tackle. The Aggies' top-line talent there should be pretty good, with super-senior Albert Regis manning the middle alongside Iowa State veteran Tyler Onyedim or former five-star David Hicks.
Behind those players, though, there are just a bunch of question marks. There's a lot of excitement about the true freshmen in DJ Sanders, Chace Sims, and Landon Rink, but if you're relying on true freshmen in the SEC to buoy your play along the lines, you're probably in a bit of a pickle.
Mike Elko hints at possible defensive tackle breakout by Dealyn Evans to assuage depth concerns by Aggie fans
That's exactly what Mike Elko addressed in his press conference today, where he indicated that 2024 signee Dealyn Evans has been taking a step recently:
Mike Elko: "Dealyn Evans has had a really strong few days... We really challenged him to go grab one of those spots, and that has been cool to see."
— TexAgs (@TexAgs) August 5, 2025
"(Marco Jones) has elevated himself from where he was in the spring."
This is pretty massive for the Aggies if he does indeed make some noise there. Evans was a battle down the stretch with the Texas Longhorns after the Aggies' coaching change, but A&M and Elko ended up winning out. He's got all the potential in the world, but he just has to make it happen.
Evans likely won't start over Onyedim or Regis, but he could be exactly the kind of quality depth that A&M is in desperate need of for this year. Furthermore, he could be an anchor up there going into the upcoming years, especially given the fact that he's gotten up to that 315 range ahead of the season, according to the online roster.
This is great news for Aggie fans, and inspires some hope for the upcoming year at a spot of concern. Hopefully Dealyn keeps pushing and has a breakout season for the Aggies in 2025.
