Texas A&M football once again far exceeds championship recruiting ratio in stellar 2025 haul
Texas A&M football has long had a reputation of a place that, while flush with talent, has not been able to develop or achieve much with the players they have. Much of that has to do with the Jimbo Fisher years; in a new era under Mike Elko, the Aggies are looking to flip that rep on its head.
Elko is well on his way. We saw massive strides out of the entire offensive line, for example, and out of individual players like Le'Veon Moss and Amari Daniels.
Many guys with lower star ratings coming out of high school were able to shine for the Aggies as well this past season. Taurean York has proven that he was underrated as a prospect, and BJ Mayes and Will Lee both showed out for the Aggies this past year.
College football fans all know, however, that stars do in fact matter in the aggregate. Since college football recruiting rankings have been collected, no team has ever won a national championship with less than 50% of their roster consisting of composite four or five-star players.
This "blue-chip ratio" is always a topic of conversation in the preseason, and the Aggies have been a regular name to see mentioned there. Mike Elko is looking to continue that trend in his tenure, and he's off to a great start.

76% of Texas A&M football's recruits were four or five stars. That's more than Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, LSU, Ohio State, or Auburn. In fact, the only teams better than the Aggies in this metric are Oregon, Georgia, and Alabama.
That's some elite company to be in. Of course, it's the development piece where the Aggies need to prove themselves, so the work is not yet done. I feel confident in this staff to make it happen, though.
