This is a great early sign for one of the Aggies' newest hires.

Texas A&M's recent addition of TE coach Derek Shay was heralded as a solid pickup for Aggieland, and Shay is already showing that he's intent on bringing big time talent to his room as the Aggies gain a commitment from former Fresno State TE Richie Anderson.

Anderson brings an edge to the TE room as a plus blocker, which the Aggies have needed at that spot, especially with the departure of Nate Boerkircher. Anderson will look to fill the void left by the one-year Aggie hero, who was himself a transfer from Nebraska, as a big part of the Texas A&M offense in the upcoming year.

Mike Elko and company now have two TE commits out of the transfer portal to replace the aforementioned Boerkircher and the outgoing transfer Theo Ohrstrom. Micah Riley remains on the roster for the Aggies, as well as high-potential redshirt freshman Kiotti Armstrong.

Texas A&M adds second TE to replenish thin room as Richie Anderson commits

It was well-known that Collin Klein's offensive system utilized tight ends in a huge way, and we saw that in his two years in Aggieland, but there was a question as to whether Holmon Wiggins would do the same. With all the talk of system continuity, the presumption was that the answer was yes, but this second TE addition all but solidifies that answer.

Anderson can function like Boerkircher as a true double threat TE— which can be one of the most threatening weapons on the field for a team if used correctly. That means this is is a pickup that may go under the radar for some fans who only look at player rankings, but it will no doubt play in massively for the Aggies in the upcoming season.

Texas A&M isn't done in the slightest in the portal, however. Though they have likely filled the tight end spot at this point, they will still look to continue to fill out the roster in other places— namely interior defensive line and receiver.
