The SEC's decision to go to nine conference games starting next year has resulted in shockwaves being sent around the league, and even around the entire country. Though this was always seen as a possibility, the implications here are pretty massive for all SEC teams— including Texas A&M football.

Of course, as fan reaction lit up social media last night, one thing that Aggies began to wonder was how the coaches see something like this. After all, one extra conference game can't exactly raise the chances that an SEC team will go undefeated, right?

The narrative coming out from the normal rabble-rousers and comment-section lurkers around A&M spaces was that the Aggie faithful were not happy to see this, given that schedules were about to become tougher. Of course, this wasn't reflective at all of the comments Aggie fans were actually making, and according to a recent interview, Mike Elko is similarly undaunted.

Mike Elko on 9-game SEC schedule for Texas A&M football: "Put a ball down and tell me where to go, and we'll play"

Despite the hot air that you may see blowing out of Aggie detractors, the A&M head man is looking forward to this nine-game challenge:

I think this reaction from Elko is shared by the majority of Aggie fans. There are those who look at what Indiana did this past fall, for example— riding a cupcake schedule in which they blew out all of their low-level opponents, but never beating any big time foes— and think that, strategically speaking, their school should do the same thing, but Aggie fans are ready to see the big time matchups this will afford.

Every SEC team's home slate just got better, in other words. There will be more marquee matchups, more variety in conference opponents, and any other number of positive results from this change. You can tell that Elko is excited, and so are the fans.
