Texas A&M football lands top-30 national player as first commit in 2027 class

With the class of 2025 now done and dusted, Texas A&M football is looking ahead to 2026 as they begin to bring in some of the nation's best talent. However, it was the class of 2027— who are currently only sophomores— where the Aggies made some noise today.

As A&M fans looked on in Kyle Field, watching the annual Maroon and White game, they did so with the pleasure of knowing that they had just landed one of the nation's top overall recruits for the 2027 cycle. Early in the day, 2027 WR George Lamons committed to the Aggies to become the first pledge in that cycle.

Lamons, a receiver out of Georgia, brings elite size to the position already even at such a young age. As a tenth-grader, he measures 6'4" and 215 LBs, which is every bit of a college-ready frame.

Lamons currently ranks as the 29th overall player in the nation in the 247Sports rankings, well within five-star range. Because recruiting services normally don't grade on a sliding scale based on the player's classification (even the top overall player in the 2027 cycle isn't listed as a five star at the moment), he is listed as a four-star as of right now. But make no mistake: relative to his class, he is a clear five-star talent.

This is one heck of a way to kick off the 2027 recruiting cycle. It'll be some work to keep Lamons in the boat, obviously, but this speaks volumes about what the Aggies have already been up to in the 2027 cycle.

It's a long way to signing day, but this is quite the splash for Mike Elk oand the Aggies. If 2026 ends up being all that A&M fans hope that it can be, then 2027 could be even more elite— and this is quite the cornerstone to build on.
