Texas A&M is set to receive a visit from five-star Shadow Creek receiver Jaylen Addai later this month when the Aggies kick off SEC play against Kentucky. Addai is one of the top players in the entire nation for the junior class, currently ranked as a top-10 player regardless of position in the country.

Though Addai is an in-state talent, the main contenders for his services— at least at this point— are Notre Dame and Ohio State, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine. The in-state factor is sometimes a little less of a leg up than you might think with these high-profile recruitments— see what the Aggies were able to get done with Mark Matthews, for example— but maybe Texas A&M can leverage things with him.
Holmon Wiggins has been one of the best recruiters on the Texas A&M staff as a receivers coach, and now that he’s the full-time offensive coordinator, he can continue to leverage those relationships going into the future. He will no doubt be key in the race for Addai, which figures to be one of the most hotly-contested in the nation.

The Aggies just lost a former five-star receiver when it was announced that Jerome Myles had departed the team late in fall camp, but they have quite the deep room for this upcoming year. Aaron Gregory is set to be a contributor even as a true freshman, too, so he’ll be part of the equation going forward without a doubt.
Then, you have the 2027 class, which includes top-50 talents Eric McFarland and Jaden Upshaw. With the raw talent of those guys, plus the development we’ve seen out of this Aggie staff, they will be major players going forward in the Aggie passing game as well.
It should also be well-noted that the Aggies have snagged a big time receiver from the portal in each of the last two cycles: KC Concepcion last season and Isaiah Horton for this year. If the Aggies feel the need, they can no doubt do the same thing again, and it very well might behoove them to have that kind of experience if guys like Terry Bussey, Horton, and Mario Craver all move along.
All of this shows that Texas A&M is a desirable spot for receivers— something that was not the case when Jimbo Fisher was in town. Of course, it could also be seen as a backlog that a guy like Addai may not want to work through.
One thing is for certain: if Marcel Reed has taken the step that fans expect, then the pass game can be on full display when Addai is in town. Add in the fact that the Aggies have a high-level quarterback committed in Addai’s class, and this visit may be what they need to vault themselves right in the thick of things as they look to go back to back with no. 1 classes.
