Texas A&M baseball, after a heck of a bounce back sophomore campaign for head coach Michael Earley, is battling hard for a top-eight spot in this year's NCAA Tournament field. The Aggies finished third in the SEC, but some late-season injuries and overall struggles made that feel like something of a disappointment compared to how high they were flying in the middle of their conference slate.
Given how difficult it's going to be to get one of those top-eight spots, the Aggie fanbase wanted to see a win or two in Hoover during the SEC Tournament to help A&M's case. That didn't happen, as Texas A&M was summarily dismissed by the Auburn Tigers in their one and only game.
Still, though, the Aggies are a lock for the postseason, even if they don't get exactly what they want in terms of seeding. After an announcement last night from the official NCAA Baseball account, though, the Aggies know they are at least guaranteed one thing.
Texas A&M set to host regional according to official NCAA Baseball account
Texas A&M is listed as one of the top sixteen teams playing in this year's postseason tournament for college baseball:

The way the seeding shook out was notable for many fans. The common thought is that Florida's run in the SEC tournament put them a cut above the Aggies, despite Texas A&M holding the head to head— but this list would indicate that the NCAA is not putting too much importance on those conference tourney runs, as Ryan Brauninger of Texags points out.
That could be a good sign for the Aggies as they continue to scratch and claw for that final seed. This may also alleviate any heartburn that Texas A&M fans have over losing that game in Hoover, as it appears that it would not have availed them very much at all.
This would be another savvy move by Michael Earley, then, if things pan out the way that Aggie fans hope. There's still much more left to see on that front, but this is a step in the right direction.
Texas A&M getting out of their regional, however, is imperative. If Texas A&M does indeed get a top-eight seed, that means they are a team that is going to be favored the entire way to get to Omaha. Making it to the College World Series in year two would be enough to call the Earley tenure a success thus far, despite what happened last year, but there's much to do before then anyway.
There will no doubt be more forks and twists in the road ahead for the Aggies, who are still trying to get completely healthy ahead of this upcoming weekend. The Aggies will know their actual seeding later today, as well as who they are paired with in the College Station Regional— hopefully, it's a favorable draw and that top-eight seed that fans are craving.
