Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting is quickly shaping up to be a legendary group, as the Aggies keep gaining momentum with high-level targets all across the nation. The Aggies already have six players in the fold that are listed as five-stars by at least one service, including their recent addition of the nation's no. 3 overall player in OT Mark Matthews.
With so many big time names trending towards the Aggies, there can be some that sneak under the radar if they haven't gotten the recognition of the services just yet. One current commit that fits that bill is Hakim Frampton, who jumped in on this Aggie class early on, but is still a player that the staff clearly feels great about.
According to a new update, Texas A&M is slated to add another extremely slept-on player in TE Holden Niemi. The Aggies currently hold no tight end commitments, and it looks like they are going to find a diamond in the rough to fill that spot.
Texas A&M trending heavily for slept-on TE prospect Holden Niemi
Rivals tweeted out earlier today that predictions had been logged for the Aggies to pick up an offensive target. It didn't take much sleuthing to figure out that that target was Niemi, a 6'4", 210-LB player from Dexter, Michigan, as his recruiting prediction machine is now up to 96% in favor of the Aggies.
Snagging a trenches player like this out from under the nose of the Wolverines is no joke, especially with Kyle Whittingham now in town up in Ann Arbor. Whittingham has a reputation of developing just this kind of player, so the Aggies getting the edge on him here is no small feat.
Of course, this is not the first time the Aggies have done this kind of thing. Picking up OT Mark Matthews was considered a nigh-impossible task for any other team besides Miami, given Cristobal's prowess at recruiting and developing OL and Matthews' own proximity to the school. But the Aggies didn't flinch, and they were able to defeat the Hurricanes for one of the top prospects in the nation.
The Aggies are looking to do the same here against the Wolverines. Texas A&M just put former walk-on Nate Boerkircher into the NFL as a second-round draft pick, and the TE only spent one year as an Aggie— previously, he wasn't on any NFL draft radar, but after some time in College Station, his stock rocketed up.
Niemi, despite ranking 849th among all recruits right now, has an offer list that far outstrips that designation. He's been offered by the likes of Florida, Alabama, the aforementioned Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, Auburn, and others. In other words, don't be surprised if you see this guy begin to fly up the rankings in the near future.
TE is a needed piece for the Aggies, and new coach Derek Shay exceeded at finding diamonds in the rough when at Kentucky. It looks like he's done that again, and the Aggies are now on the verge of growing their class once more.
