Texas A&M basketball fans remain outraged after yesterday's late-game timeout ends up costing Aggies rivalry game
Texas A&M basketball's showdown yesterday with the Longhorns was packed to the gills with drama. The Aggies and Horns went back and forth over and over in a game that got uncomfortable for both teams coming down to the wire.
In retrospect, given that the Aggies ended up coming out on the wrong end of this one, it's easy to pick out one eventuality or another in such a close game and call it the turning point. But there's one point in the game that's hard to avoid as the decisive moment— especially given how many fans are coming back to it.
Late in the first overtime, the Aggies looked like they had a commanding lead and had a chance to build an even bigger one with a three by Wade Taylor. But directly before the ball left his hand, Buzz Williams called a timeout— which negated the points that Wade had just scored.
And the Buzz Williams timeout ultimately bites them…

Would’ve been an 81-74 lead and the dagger. Instead, Texas just saved their season and will head to the NCAA Tournament.
A&M will wait to see where they fall on the No. 3 / No. 4 seed lines. https://t.co/EbKGvVIKdB
If Taylor had scored that three-point basket, it would have been a much more difficult hill for the Longhorns to climb in order to tie the game, as they ended up doing. As Aggie players continued to foul out, the end of the second overtime saw the Longhorns take a commanding lead— one which A&M could not overcome.
The Aggies will await their seeding on this Sunday. Hopefully, this blunder won't cost them a seed line, but it's easy to see how that could end up being the case, depending on how things go elsewhere in the country.
