Texas A&M football fans are already aware of just how dominant Mike Elko was in the portal last winter. From the end of December and into January, the Aggies were reeling off commitments at positions of need, adding quality depth and high-end starting talent.
I'm talking about guys like Nic Scourton, Will Lee, Ar'maj Reed-Adams, Dezz Ricks, and more. The Aggies cleaned up in particular in the defensive backfield, which was in dire need of some reinforcements after what we saw in the Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State.
There was one prospect, though, that many were figuring in as part of the Aggies' class, but never materialized. This is a guy who would have pushed for a starting spot had he ended up in College Station, but ended up as a what-could-have-been story for the Ags.
That is, until now.
Julian Humphrey's commitment rights a portal wrong from one year ago for Texas A&M football
Former UGA cornerback Julian Humphrey had all but locked in his portal exit, with many Aggies thinking he would end up in College Station based on how his high school recruitment went. But at the end of the transfer window, he was back in Athens.
Kirby and company obviously wanted to keep him. And with his elite coverage ability, you can see why.
But now Humphrey isn't rethinking any move. He entered the portal a few days ago, and announced this morning that he was committed to Texas A&M football.
The Aggies, who were in need of one more top-end cover man, have this need filled by Humphrey— just one year later than we all thought we'd see it. With the Houston kid back home in the Lone Star State, expect to see an even better secondary next year in College Station.
