Texas A&M football's portal loss is once again the gain of another divisional rival— this time, one of the powers of college football.

Former OL for Texas A&M football Kam Dewberry commits to Alabama out of transfer portal

One of the final recruiting battles of the 2022 class for Texas A&M football was interior offensive lineman Kam Dewberry. Though Dewberry was an Aggie lean for much of the cycle, both Texas and Alabama made pushes before he eventually shut things down in the late signing period.

Though Dewberry, a top-100 player out of Atascocita high school, was a highly-rated guy who saw a good bit of playing time in his freshman year, he didn't end up panning out in College Station the way that many hoped. A big part of that was the rise of Chase Bisontis, a key member of the following year's class for the Aggies.

Now that Bisontis and Ar'maj Reed-Adams have the interior offensive line spots on lock for the Aggies, though, most anticipated that Dewberry would look elsewhere. They were correct in those presumptions, as he entered the portal a few weeks back.

Now, we know his destination. Dewberry has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide, a school with which he was involved during his high school recruitment.

This is a loss for the Aggies' depth, but the top line of the Aggie OL will remain the same. In fact, it will be bolstered, if anything, thanks to the fact that Mark Nabou— who was hurt in the first game of the year— will be returning from injury.

It's a bummer that it never worked out for Kam in College Station, but he'll have a better path to playing time in Tuscaloosa. There will be some stiff competition, for sure, but he's got the tools to compete. Best of luck, Kam!
