Perennial Texas A&M football hater changes his tune: A&M ‘has a good shot at the CFP’

Last weekend’s performance is making believers out of even the most strident of Texas A&M football’s haters.

Joel Klatt, weeks after calling Texas A&M football ‘overrated,’ now claims they have the inside track to the College Football Playoff

If you took a poll of Texas A&M football fans about their least favorite figures in the college football media sphere, there are certain names that I feel confident would pop up over and over. One of those names is that of FOX college football analyst Joel Klatt.

The former Colorado quarterback, now the top analyst on FOX’s college football broadcasting lineup, has poked fun at the Aggies pretty regularly over the years. Call it bias, old Big 12 rivalry, or whatever you like—the fact is that most Aggies consider Klatt to be a guy who won’t treat A&M fairly.

While Klatt can be harsh on the Aggies, I think he can get a bad rap sometimes. Regardless, though, most A&M fans aren’t going to be in agreement with me on that one.

What may surprise fans, though, is what Klatt tweeted out earlier this week about the Aggies. As the landscape of this season underwent such a shakeup this past weekend, fans are still making sense of the fallout.

As part of that fallout, one of the things that many people are saying at this point is that the Aggies have a much better shot at the playoff than many initially thought. Klatt himself is part of that number.

Of course, Aggie fans were not quick to let him forget his words from only a few weeks ago.

He’s not far off base with his latest prognostication, though. The Aggies’ schedule sets up quite nicely for them to end up ranked in the top 12 at season’s end. They just need to win the games they should in order to end up there—which, of course, has been a struggle for previous Aggie teams.

Something about this A&M squad seems different, however. I have a good feeling about Mike Elko’s ability to rally this team and lead them down the stretch of the season.
