Pivotal game for Texas A&M earns considerable distinction as top matchup

Texas A&M has a lot of repeats on their schedule this year, but hopefully this one doesn't go the same way.

Texas A&M's showdown with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish is set to be quite the early test for the Aggies. Losing that game in 2024 was an early setback for the Aggies, and had they been able to wrest control of a tie game in the fourth quarter, they would have been 8-0 headed into their showdown with South Carolina.

This season, the Irish replace their quarterback and the heart of their defense in their pair of DTs and key members of the defensive secondary. Even so, this figures to be a formidable task for the Aggies, whether or not Riley Leonard is facing them as the opposing signal caller.

Where it falls in the Aggies' schedule is massive as wellโ€” the Aggies have two weeks of runway, facing off with some cupcake opponents before their trip to South Bend. After that, they will largely be out of the national spotlight until late in the season, provided Florida or Auburn aren't huge upstarts. But make no mistake, they're well in the spotlight for this one.

Texas A&M vs. Notre Dame labeled a top-10 non-conference game of 2025 season

On3 recently released their list of top non conference games for the 2025 season, and the Aggies' showdown with Notre Dame made the top 10.

The Irish appear on here quite a bit, as is to be expected, given that every game for them is non-conference. Notre Dame having to venture to face off with Miami two weeks before their game against the Aggies could be a boon for A&M when they go up there.

This is the largest game of Week 3, and it has already been confirmed to be a primetime broadcast on NBC. With that in mind, there's a solid chance that this is going to be the highest viewership of the season for the Aggies, depending on how good Texas is at the end of the season. For that reason, and several others, A&M needs to put on a show in Indiana.
