A portal target committed to Texas A&M football while in College Station... and then flipped away before announcing for the Aggies.

Texas A&M football gets a taste of transfer portal insanity as commit flips away within only a day

Texas A&M football fans are well-used to the madness of the transfer portal following last year's tumultuous run of commitments, flips, and signings. The Aggies were the beneficiary for the most part last year, but there were certainly a few eventualities that did not exactly go the Aggies' way.

While there hasn't been the fast and furious spate of commitments that we saw last year in early January, the Aggies are still acting quickly to lock down some top targets. Over the last few days, they hosted several big time visitors, including several from other SEC schools.

One such visitor was former Arkansas DB Jaylon Braxton. Braxton missed most of last season, but was named to the SEC all-freshman team in 2023.

During this time when several visitors were on campus, Aggie fans were excited when they saw that Mike Elko tweeted out the gift that he has heretofore reserved for a transfer portal commitment.

As usual, the name was not immediately announced, so speculation was running rampant. Not long after, though, A&M fans began to see some strange tweets on their timeline, like this one from Texags recruiting expert Ryan Brauninger.

These were precipitated by, as you can see from the quote tweet, an announcement that Braxton, who had just been on campus with the Aggies, had committed to Ole Miss. As time went on, and no commitment announcement was made for A&M, fans began to suspect that something strange was afoot.

Those suspicions were confirmed earlier today, as news broke that Braxton had indeed committed to the Aggies on his visit... before then flipping to Ole Miss. The annoucement of his commitment to the Rebels came within about five hours of Elko's tweet, giving the impression that Braxton had done all of this in only that time frame.

We've seen a lot of crazy stuff since the portal has really gotten going, but this could be one of the most insane stories so far to have to do with the Aggies. While I'm confident that Elko will bring in the necessary talent via the transfer ranks, the Ags should make sure they lock these guys in quickly, as it's the Wild West out there.
