Rendering a verdict on Texas A&M football 2023 portal entries: Jardin Gilbert

Gilbert was another parting that left Aggie fans disgruntled, but that had a lot to do with the destination he chose. A native of Louisiana, Gilbert returned to his home state Tigers, where he held down a starting role for much of the year.

Gilbert missed much of 2023 for the Aggies with an injury, but an enduring picture was his being burned in coverage against Miami in the second game of that year. Given that this was his last impression for A&M fans, and that he began to do media declaring that he should have picked LSU out of high school, the Maroon and White faithful soured on him quickly.

The Tiger safety put up decent numbers as far as tackles, but that speaks mostly to the issues with the LSU defense. He was a liability in coverage at times for the Tigers, and struggled in Blake Baker's scheme overall— just like the majority of the LSU defenders.

Verdict: SUNK
