Rendering a verdict on Texas A&M football 2023 portal entries: Evan Stewart
This is the one that gave Aggie fans the most heartburn. Evan Stewart took a while to jump in the portal, and there were quite a few rumors about him when he did so. Suffice it to say, the Aggie faithful did not have a great taste in their mouths when it came to his departure.
He left A&M for Oregon, widely considered to be one of the most wide-open, receiver-friendly, modern offenses in the nation. Even so, though, his numbers aren't particularly improved from the previous two years.
Stewart went from 64.9 yards on 5.3 receptions per game in 2022, to 64.3 yards on 4.8 receptions per game in 2023, to only 47.2 yards on 3.7 receptions per game this year. His average yardage per reception fell almost a full yard from 2023 to 2024 as well. That's a significant rolling back of his role in the offense compared to what he was doing in College Station.
It's not as bad as it could be, but given all the factors— that he would have no doubt been a number one option in Aggieland this year, that he is playing in an offense that should have accentuated his numbers rather than scale them back— I think there's only one way you can go with this one.
