Texas A&M football 2026 WR target Dequane Prevo announces delay in commitment announcement; Is this a bad sign for the Aggies?

Texas A&M football seemed set to make a big addition to their 2026 class on Tuesday, as WR Dequane Prevo was set to announce his commitment. Prevo had been in College Station regularly over the last couple of months, and all signs pointed towards him choosing the Aggies.

As of today, however, it looks like A&M fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see if he does indeed select the Maroon and White. Prevo announced today that he would be delaying his commitment. He did not give another date, so as of right now, it appears to have been delayed indefinitely.

This isn't the first such storyline we've seen in recent days. 5-star 2025 DB target Trey McNutt was set to announce on July 19, with strong indications that he was headed towards Oregon. He delayed his commitment as well, which in hindsight seems to be thanks (at least in part) to a furious push on the part of the Aggie coaching staff.

I think in fairness that we need to evaluate this development in much the same way. Prevo is a guy with his stock on the rise, and I think the Ags would have been happy to take his commitment had he stuck with his original timeline. However, it is very possible that other programs have turned up the heat here, and he is beginning to hear from other coaching staffs more regularly.

You have to play the long game in recruiting sometimes. I think Elko and company still are in a great position here, but I'd love to see them get Prevo back on campus sometime soon in order to counteract any momentum that may be working against them at this point.
