Three reasons Texas A&M basketball can triumph over the Houston Cougars to advance to the Sweet Sixteen in March Madness

After a win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers that featured some positively blistering offense by Texas A&M basketball, the Aggies are now facing down one of the most formidable opponents in the nation. In fact, if you go by the NET rankings, this is the most formidable opponent in the nation.

The Houston Cougars have spent a good part of the year ranked as the number one team in the nation. They've gotten there by a combination of outstanding guard play and dogged, determined defense. It is that defense that has chiefly buoyed them to this point, along with some fercious offensive rebounding.

The Cougars rank first in field goals, field goals allowed, and field goal percentage allowed per game. They are inside the top five in two pointers, two pointers attempted, and two point percentage allowed as well. They are 11th in three point field goal percentage allowed and 28th in steals per game.

That's an extremely tough defense to match up with. In fact, it is probably the best defense in the country. So what chance do the Aggies have?

Better than you might think.

It was back in the midst of the new coach excitement with Mike Elko having just been hired and going crazy in the transfer portal, so many Aggie fans may have missed this game, but Texas A&M basketball faced off against Houston earlier this year. The final margin? Four points in favor of the Cougars, in a game where the Aggies tied them up with a minute and a half to go.

This is a gettable team. This is a winnable game. Here's three reasons why the Aggies pull off the huge upset to advance to the Sweet 16.
