3 reasons why Texas A&M baseball wins their first-ever national championship tonight
Three reasons why Texas A&M baseball finally breaks through and wins a national championship tonight
Texas A&M baseball confronts a do-or-die situation tonight against Tennessee. After a dominant 9-5 win in game one, the offense sputtered to a halt, scoring only one run in Game 2. There were some mental mistakes by Aggie baserunners that led to two pickoffs at first base and other things that were easily fixable, but this A&M team overall looked far less sharp than they did in the first contest.
The good news is that you bought yourself this buffer with the big win in game 1. That’s why the Aggies have yet to go home, even though they have just now suffered their first loss since the postseason began.
I bet they are ready to rebound in a big way in tonight’s game. They had better be, as well—this is the final game on the college baseball calendar, and there’s a championship on the line. This Aggie squad will have to lay everything on the line tonight.
The flip side of that, obviously, is that Tennessee will be doing the same. After holding this potent Vols offense to five and then four runs in the previous two games, can the Aggies keep Big Orange down for a third straight game? Can they leap out to a lead once again?
There are lots of questions heading into tonight’s matchup. Here are three things that I think will work in the Aggies’ favor tonight.
Three reasons Texas A&M baseball becomes national champions: Lamkin gets off to a hot start
Justin Lamkin is the starter tonight on the bump for the Aggies. He’s had an up and down year, but he has been absolutely nails in his starts in Omaha. He completely shut down the Gators both times he faced them, and though he’s not coming off of a full week of rest, I feel confident he’ll be ready for this challenge.
The Aggies will need him to be stellar, as the Vols have one of their best arms going on the other side of things in Sechrist. If Lamkin shows up and gives us the same kind of stuff he has heretofore in Omaha, the Ags will be in good shape.
