4. Texas A&M football spring storylines: Who emerges in the secondary?

A quick survey of the transfer class rundown that Elko brought in during this previous window quickly reveals a definite area of focus: defensive back. He did well to do so, of course: the Aggies were in dire need of depth and talent on the back end of the defense, so it was a prudent move to be so intentional about bringing in both quality and quantity at the position.

The Aggies originally seemed as though they would lose both CB starters from last year, butTyreek Chappell ended up withdrawing his name from the portal. He had his best year of his career under Elko, so he will be hoping to recapture that form going forward.

He will be facing some stiff competition, however. High-quality transfers like BJ Mayes and Jaydon Hill will be looking to make some noise in the spring, not to mention former five-star Dezz Ricks.

And that's just the corner position. The Aggies now have lost Jacoby Mathews to the portal as well, so there's a big question mark at safety as well. Will Dalton Brooks step up? Transfers Donovan Saunders or Trey Jones III? This is perhaps the most hotly contested position group on the team, and I will be fascinated to follow along as things develop over the course of this next month.
