Texas A&M Football Could Get Visit from Top-10 Portal Player
Nic Scourton Considering Texas A&M Football Among Portal Options
Texas A&M football under Mike Elko has quietly been putting together not only the most impressive portal class the Aggies have ever had, but one of the best in the country this year as far as addressing current team needs. Adding a corner like Will Lee, a safety like De'Rickey Wright, and a receiver like Cyrus Allen may not be huge splashes on the national scene, but they are what this team needs.
That said, there is a name in the portal now at which Texas A&M football has a great shot that would be that huge, national splash. Nic Scourton (formerly Nic Caraway), last season's Big 10 leader in sacks, notching a total of 10 to go along with 50 total tackles and a forced fumble, has announced his intention to transfer from the Purdue Boilermakers. Scourton, who comes in at 6'4" and 280 LBs, ranks as the 9th overall player via the 247Sports transfer portal ratings.
The leg up that Texas A&M football has over the other teams in this one is that Scourton is a local kid. He attended Bryan High School, mere miles from the Aggies' campus, so he has plenty of familiarity with the Aggie program.
Scourton, due to his proven production at the college level, is a highly sought after player out of the portal. That means the Aggies will be contending with some of the top programs in the portal game; the ones you hear about landing highly-rated transfer after highly-rated transfer.
Can the Aggies outlast those portal heavyweights? They certainly can bring something to the table that the other teams don't when it comes to proximity to home. Things are trending in the right direction, given that he is strongly considering the Aggies. It's time for new DL coach Sean Spencer to make a statement in recruiting, long considered one of his strengths, by going out and landing this instant-impact player.
