Texas A&M baseball is Omaha-bound after sweeping Oregon Ducks in Super Regional; how far can Aggies go?

No matter what kind of difficulties they encounter, Texas A&M baseball keeps finding ways to win. After going down 8-4 late in the game yesterday, the Aggies rode a huge seventh-inning rally to a 13-8 lead. This came on only two hits, as Oregon’s pitching issued walk after walk, with the Ducks’ head coach standing by and doing nothing for a large part of the inning.

Things were capped off with Kaeden Kent knocking one out of the park for a grand slam in one of the biggest moments Olsen Field has ever seen. The Aggies would add two more runs to Oregon’s one over the rest of the game to notch a final score of 15-9.

Things looked bad early for the Aggies. Starter Shane Sdao didn’t have near his best stuff on display, and he had to exit with what appeared to be elbow discomfort—certainly concerning moving forward for Texas A&M baseball. Meanwhile, the Aggie bats were snoozing until that breakout seventh frame, making it look for quite some time as though Oregon had the upper hand in this matchup.

Of course, the Aggies answered back after this disheartening start, as I’ve mentioned. This mirrored their big response in the first game, which also came after a debilitating injury. Braden Montgomery was injured trying to reach home in is what is an extremely concerning loss for the Aggies. It was revealed afterwards that it was a clean break of the ankle—good for Montgomery’s draft prospects, all things considered, but he is done for the year as far as the Aggies go.

Despite this, the Aggies bounced back to win that first game in dominating fashion as well. They close their home slate this year at 38-3, an eye-popping record, and have thus far beaten every single non-SEC team they’ve played. The injuries are no doubt a huge concern going into the College World Series, but this Aggie team is skilled and resilient enough to be a threat no matter what.
