Texas A&M Football Reportedly Hosting 5-Star Alabama Transfer
Texas A&M Football Gets First Crack at Elite Corner Transfer from Alabama
Texas A&M football has been doing their best to capitalize to the max on Nick Saban's retirement so far. They've notched a visit from a recent five-star receiver decommit, shot to the top of the list for a 2025 five-star receiver decommit, and are now in the mix for a high-profile transfer from the Tide.
Desmond "Dezz" Ricks was ranked as the top player in the 2024 class. Near the end of the previous cycle, however, Ricks reclassified up to 2023, where, while still a five-star prospect, he was not rated quite as highly (similar to the situation with LT Overton that Texas A&M football had.
With Nick Saban moving into retirement, Ricks decided to enter the portal; a move that makes a lot of sense, given that Saban's specialty is defensive backs, and Ricks's position coach, Travaris Robinson, has since accepted a position at Georgia. News came down today that Ricks has scheduled a visit to Texas A&M and to LSU, where his brother Eli began his career before transferring to the Tide.
As I've written about on the site before, it appears that getting the first visit with portal prospects is a huge advantage, and while currently unconfirmed publicly, the scuttlebutt is that the Aggies have the inside track to get Ricks on campus first. An addition of this quality would be massive, and the perfect way to cap off the complete rejuvenation of the Aggie cornerbacks that Elko and Ishmael Aristide have overseen thus far.
The add/drop deadline for classes at Texas A&M is a week from today. It's well possible that the Aggies could add this luminary in their secondary before that point. If they do so, this will be an extremely formidable and talented back end for Mike Elko to work with headed into his first year as the head man for Texas A&M football. If they get Ricks on campus first, I believe they can do it.
