Texas A&M basketball: Aggies add needed center in Minnesota's Pharrel Payne

Well, I had a feeling yesterday's commitment for Texas A&M basketball wasn't the last and I was right. The second commitment of the offseason is a big one! Buzz Williams adds a forward in former Minnesota Gopher Pharrel Payne. Payne announced it via his Twitter.

Payne averaged 10 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists a game this past season at Minnesota. He just finished up his sophomore campaign and will be entering his junior year with the Ags. The 6'9 forward is versatile and has a lot potential in many different areas.

The sophomore averaged over 23 minutes a game this past season and had a huge role with the Gophers. He shot over 60% from the field, and was all over the glass. The Aggies were known for their ability to get second chance opportunites, so I see him fitting right in. He will have the honor of playing right alongside Andersson Garcia and Solomon Washington. A scary frontcourt to say the least.

Payne is a native of Minnesota and attended Park Senior High School. Texas A&M wasn't the only one interested in the forward as he had interest in Oregon as well as that team in Austin. Payne will have 2 years of eligibility remaining.

Be on the lookout for some more commitments as Jordan Pope of Oregon State makes his decision tomorrow between Texas and Texas A&M basketball. Hopefully the Aggies can go for three commitments in three days—if so, Buzz may have his best team yet.
