Who were the biggest misses in the transfer portal for Texas A&M football in the 2024 cycle?
I’ll say this off the top, just for anyone angrily clicking—I think that, overall, Mike Elko and his Texas A&M football staff did a bang-up job in the portal. For the most part, every need that the Aggies had on their roster was addressed—and that extremely effectively.
The fact remains, though, that the Aggies still have a few spots of concern on the roster. Some of those are pretty obvious, and the Texas A&M football staff took a few swings that didn’t end up coming to fruition.
There’s another category here, too: what you might call the “ones that got away.” There were a few players who had committed to the Aggies, or nearly done so, before either flipping or backing down from their original commitment. There are a couple of players who fill this category as well.
So, who were the biggest misses for Texas A&M football that could have helped the Aggies this year? Let’s take a look.
Transfer portal misses for Texas A&M football: WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith
This is a pretty obvious one, as Lambert-Smith was a top receiver target in the spring portal that very nearly ended up in College Station. He was one of the few portal players to make a visit to Aggieland and leave uncommitted, and given his connections to Auburn, it seemed to be curtains at that point.
Lambert-Smith was a highly-rated guy out of high school, and would have brought experience to the Aggies. It really seems as though he hasn’t quite fully realized his potential as of yet, so there was some optimism that the Aggies could capitalize off of his gifts better than had been done up in State College. I guess we’ll never know—but the Aggies do have the misfortune of facing off against him in late November.
