CBS’s Bud Elliott predicts Florida QB DJ Lagway to transfer to Texas A&M football

Ever since he burst onto the scene, Texas A&M football fans have been hoping for a chance at former Willis quarterback DJ Lagway. The Aggies were major players in his recruitment, but he ended up at Florida after a hotly contested race for his signature.

It wasn’t without plenty of trying on the Aggies’ part, however—even after Jimbo was fired, coach Elko made a valiant run to try to bring Lagway into the fold. Florida viewed Lagway as a key recruit (perhaps the key recruit) of Napier’s tenure, so they gave it everything they could to hold on.

One of the reasons they considered Lagway as such a key recruitment, of course, is the instability and questions currently surrounding Billy Napier down in Gainesville. They finished last year with a whimper, and some questionable offseason coaching and portal movement have Gator fans worried.

This year’s schedule doesn’t exactly look to favor them, either. This is possibly the toughest schedule in the nation—it’s more than conceivable that the Gators end up getting four wins or fewer, to say nothing of missing a bowl.

With so much tumult on the precipice of taking place down in Gainesville, this is a chance for rival fans to do a little bit of needling. One of the more prominent rival fans in the world of college football commentary is Bud Elliott, who has spent time covering the Florida State Seminoles in his career.

With things going south in Gainesville today against Miami (the Gators are currently down 38-10 at the time of writing), Elliott decided to chime in.

So, is he just trying to get under the skin fo Gator fans? Or is there something more afoot here? This certainly isn’t an implausible result, but it is remote at this point. We’ll keep an eye on things with Lagway going forward, of course—it’s not out of the question that the Aggies could be facing off against him in two weeks.
