College baseball insider: Expect every A&M portal player to stay after Earley hire
D1Baseball's Kendall Rogers predicts "every A&M player in the portal to stay put" after Texas A&M baseball hires Michael Earley
One of the biggest concerns for Texas A&M baseball once Jim Schlossnagle skulked over to Austin was player retention in the portal. This was a definite concern because, even though Schlossnagle was apparently not too popular with the players, his assistants were—and they were reportedly accompanying him to the state capitol.
However, apparently not all of those assistants were fully sold on selling out the Aggies. The Ags have now brought back one of the previous staff's lead recruiters and most popular coaches in Michael Earley, now as the head man for the Aggies.
One of the reasons this became a big name to follow in the first place was the ardent support for his candidacy among the current roster. Nearly every player, whether in the portal or not, put something out about how the Aggies needed to bring Earley on in some capacity.
Given that fact, it should not be shocking that Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball is now reporting that he expects every A&M player who has declared for the portal to end up back in College Station, as things stand.
As I wrote before, most of these players wanted to stay in College Station, but they needed to keep their options open with the portal deadline looming. If the Ags can bring back Jace LaViolette, Gavin Grahovac, Caden Sorrell, and the rest—not to mention the current portal and high school commitments they boast—this could be a tops-in-the-country type of roster headed into next season.
There will be some things that have to be navigated (for example, Ali Camarillo and Kaeden Kent both want to play shortstop), but this is amazing news for the Aggies on this front. The other nugget about the staff that Michael Earley will put together shouldn't be undersold, either.
