Final preseason depth chart projection for Texas A&M football ahead of game week
Texas A&M football roster predictions - EDGE: Cashius Howell (Backup: Malick Sylla)
In projecting the Aggies’ win-loss record this year, when I came to game four against Bowling Green, I wrote something to the effect of how unfair to the Falcons it is that the Aggies basically snagged their best player off their roster via the portal and are about to deploy him against them this season.
The player in question, of course, is Cashius Howell. In his time at Bowling Green, he led the entire MAC in sacks, making him the second Aggie portal pickup who led his conference in that impact statistic.
He’s the exact prototype of player that the Aggies have needed over this last few years since Tyree Johnson made his exit: the long, lean edge rusher with a lot of bend to get around offensive tackles. His specialization in that sense makes him a formidable weapon for an Aggie pass rush that boasts plenty of other styles.
Behind him, former top-100 recruit Malick Sylla will hopefully take another step this season as well. He’s got all the potential in the world, but he has not quite been able to crack the rotation yet in College Station. Cut from a similar cloth to Howell, hopefully he can make an impact as well and set himself up for a huge year next season.
