Texas A&M football roster predictions - S: Bryce Anderson, Dalton Brooks (Backups: Marcus Ratcliffe, Trey Jones III)

I was really high on Trey Jones in the spring, thinking he was a sure fire starter for this Texas A&M football team. The headiness and seniority that he brings, along with his physical play, seemed like it would be a huge boon for this squad, especially after Jacoby Mathews departed.

However, with the news that Bryce Anderson would be focusing on safety rather than nickel, things became a bit more complicated. Even more so when Dalton Brooks’s name began to pop up more and more in discussions about this team.

Brooks, the true sophomore out of small-town Shiner, Texas, is another guy who fits in the “freaky athletic” category. Long, fast, and a hard hitter, his ceiling is astronomically high; from all accounts, he’s announced himself here in fall camp.

That would relegate Jones, along with the similarly exciting Marcus Ratcliffe, to backup territory. However, in Elko’s scheme, I think we see a solid rotation at defensive back, so we’ll see plenty of each of these guys. The safety room is another huge strength on this team.
