Coaching hires that will keep Texas A&M baseball on top: Dan Heefner, Dallas Baptist University

This is an under-the-radar guy who could be ready to make a step up to the big leagues of college baseball. We consistently hear DBU, a school of little to no note in any other sport, mentioned with other top-25 programs in college baseball, and a lot of that has to do with Heefner, who has been at the helm for nearly 20 years.

Success at a lower level, with limited resources and talent, could bode well for Heefner if he decides to make the jump to the next level. He currently boasts the nation’s seventh-highest active winning percentage, which is again highly impressive given what he is working with at Dallas Baptist.

The resources at his disposal, not to mention the talent level, would be worlds better at Texas A&M baseball. The concern here would be Heefner’s lack of success in Omaha relative to the excellence his program has had in nearly every other facet.

It’s hard to have sustained success without high-level talent in any sport, though, and he would certainly have access to a deeper pool in College Station than he currently does with the Patriots. This is one to keep your eye on.
