Five coaching hires for Texas A&M baseball that would stick it to Schloss and Texas

Even in the wake of the former Texas A&M baseball coach’s betrayal, there are options the Aggies can pursue to upgrade at the position.

Coaching hires that will keep Texas A&M baseball on top: Cliff Godwin, East Carolina University

The Aggies would not be the first team to try and poach the head man of the Pirates if they decide to go this route, but Godwin has remained steadfast in Greenville for the past nine years. He’s another one who is an alumnus of the school at which he now coaches, which could help explain why he has been tough to snag for a big-name program.

However, recent events could indicate that Godwin is feeling somewhat disgruntled with his lot over in North Carolina. His gripes about the portal and that some of his players are looking checked out, given that they are outbound while still playing for him, would be greatly assuaged at a program that is at the high major level like Texas A&M.

Another concern here, though, is that he may not be as familiar with the recruiting landscape in the state of Texas. Of course, he has spent time as an assistant all over the SEC—LSU, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt—so he knows the conference without a doubt. I think he could adapt quickly.

He has never advanced past the super regional round with the Pirates, either, which is another slight red flag. As I say, though, there’s a reason you don’t often see mid-majors making it to Omaha—one that is absent when it comes to Texas A&M baseball.
