Five-star S Trey McNutt set to announce between Texas A&M football and other top schools on July 19

As summer wears on, more and more of Texas A&M football’s top targets are setting their announcement dates. Several that have already passed have gone in favor of the Aggies, such as Noah Mikhail and Marco Jones. There have also been some misses, such as Lamont Rogers and Riley Pettijohn.

With the advent of NIL and the transfer portal, big time prospects are announcing earlier and earlier on the calendar. By the time the season is midway through, we are seeing most of the top players in the nation already have a verbal commitment. Of course, that doesn’t mean the recruiting stops—we see big time flips happen as well, and the Aggies will be trying to pull just such flips off with guys like the aforementioned Rogers and Pettijohn.

Still, though, getting that initial verbal pledge is a big deal. That’s why Texas A&M football fans will be tuned in with rapt attention to see the announcement of five-star safety Trey McNutt, who has visited the Aggies several times in recent months, on July 19.

McNutt is an elite defensive back prospect who could play at either corner or safety. His versatility would be well-utilized by Mike Elko, who is a master of scheming things up in the defensive backfield.

As things stand, though, the Aggies may be on the outside looking in. With a week to go, the Aggies could certainly make a run, but it will be hard to pull such a big time prospect out of Ohio when the Buckeyes are as hard after him as they are in this case. If anyone can do it, though, it would be Mike Elko and Ish Aristide. We'll just have to see.
