Five Texas A&M football players with the most to prove in spring football
Texas A&M football players with the most to prove in spring: Tyreek Chappell
Hands down, the biggest area addressed through the portal by Mike Elko was defensive back. The Aggie DB position was in a bad way, and Elko attacked that deficit with an intensity that yielded one of the more impressive position group portal hauls in the country.
A guy who had entered the portal from the Aggies but ended up returning to College Station now faces the challenge of distinguishing himself from that group. Tyreek Chappell has a lot of starting experience on his side, but he garnered all that experience as the best option in a room that was much shakier than the current one.
Don't get me wrong—Chappell is clearly extremely talented. There's a good reason he started all those games. But the fact remains that he now faces stiffer competition than he yet has in his time in College Station.
Especially after a stint where he tested the waters in the portal, Chappell will have a lot to do to earn the trust of the coaches and the rest of the team. How he performs this spring—both on and off the field—will go a long way in determining how he fares in those regards.
