Former Texas A&M basketball star Quenton Jackson signs two-way contract with Indiana Pacers; Jackson was standout in NBA summer league
You can add another mark in the tally of Texas A&M basketball players in the NBA. One of the toughest professional leagues to break into in sports, it's not often you get multi-year college players who begin to make a significant impact on a team—but that's exactly what Quenton Jackson is hoping to do with the Indiana Pacers.
Jackson played three years for the Aggies after two years at the College of Central Florida. His prowess helped lead the Ags, who were hosed out of an NCAA tournament spot, to the NIT final, where they fell to Xavier.
Jackson is a do-it-all guard who brings defensive toughness, as you might expect out of a Buzz Williams-coached player. His high-flying, acrobatic style leads to some highlight dunks as well—these two factors make it easy for Jackson to be a fan favorite.
His efforts, including some impressive play in the NBA Summer League, have led to him inking a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers. Two-way contracts mean that the organization can move him from their active roster to their G-League roster as they see fit, allowing him to continue to get playing time and develop if they don't plan on using him in a given stretch.
Other Aggie players that have thrived after starting off in the G-League include reigning all-defensive wing Alex Caruso, so this is really an opportunity for Q to show what he can do. As his skills continue to blossom, I think he can be a nice role player for any team in the league—a tough nosed player who can handle, drive, and shoot a little bit is the kind of guy that any franchise could use.
