Gavin Grahovac opens Texas A&M baseball’s first-ever CWS final game with home run
Texas A&M baseball kicks things off in style as Gavin Grahovac hammers homer in first at-bat of CWS final
It didn’t take long for Texas A&M baseball to get the scoring started against Tennessee in Omaha. Freshman Gavin Grahovac, who has been suffering through a bit of a slump so far this year, was down 0-2 in the count when this happened:
This is the kind of juice the Aggies need to get going against a high-powered Tennessee lineup. Especially without Braden Montgomery being able to take the field, the Aggies need guys like Gavin to come through big.
Grahovac now continues his success that he was finding against the Volunteers in the SEC tournament, where he recorded two homers on the day. The freshman is beginning to reclaim his form from earlier in the year, where he was up there with Montgomery and LaViolette as one of the best hitters on the team. It’s that talent that won him the SEC Freshman of the Year award.
The Aggies would get one more across in the top of the first as Jackson Appel came home. They successfully chased the Volunteer starter off of the mound before the first frame had even finished, and that’s with Jace LaViolette failing to get on base!
Here’s hoping the Aggies can continue this mojo throughout the game. In the top of the 3rd, the Ags currently lead 2-1. Tennessee threatened to score more, but Prager got out of a jam right before Volunteer star Christian Moore was due up.
