Injured S Jacoby Mathews Tweets Support for Texas A&M Football Mid-Game
Texas A&M Football Safety Tweets Support for Team; Quells Transfer Portal Doubts
One of the surprise scratches right before this game kicked off was that of freshman safety for Texas A&M football Jacoby Mathews. Mathews has played very well as he has ascended to take over that spot in the second half of this year after Jardin Gilbert went down with injury. Gilbert has now transferred to LSU, so it would appear that the safety spot is all but sewn up for Jacoby going into next year.
With that thinking in mind, most Texas A&M football fans were surprised and somewhat dismayed to see that Mathews was not out there. Could he be another transfer portal candidate? The thought was circulating among certain corners of the Aggie faithful.
Jacoby, probably aware of this intuition, decided to tweet out a message to quell the anxiety of the Aggie fans.
This was a welcome message for Aggie fans. Jacoby has showcased impressive play in his time in the starting lineup over this latter part of the season, and figures in prominently for what Elko will do in 2024. He was a recruitment that Elko himself helped get over the finish line at the end of the 2022 cycle, but he hasn't yet been coached by the man himself.
It's a shame the Aggies are having to go without Jacoby in this game. The safeties have struggled somewhat, with the Aggies having to turn to 12th Man Sam Matthews to start in Jacoby's stead. Demani Richardson has not been on the field either, so the Aggies are really lacking in experience on the back end, and it has been quite evident so far with the way that Oklahoma State has been able to march up and down the field through the air.
