Running down Texas A&M football’s injuries ahead of Aggies’ faceoff with Bowling Green

Texas A&M football is preparing to play a surprisingly stout opponent in the Bowling Green State Falcons this Saturday. This is still a game that the Ags should win, and pretty handily, but BGSU showed against Penn State that they’re no pushover.

Of course, the Aggies are coming into this one not quite at full strength. While there are several players who have been in and out of the lineup, there’s one name that has evoked a plethora of takes, opinions, and discussions after last week: Conner Weigman.

No. 15 was listed as questionable coming into last week’s game after reportedly suffering a shoulder injury on his throwing arm against Notre Dame. He gutted it out against McNeese and threw some pretty impressive passes, but the word is that the injury was aggravated in practice the following week.

As a reminder, the new injury reports that the SEC has mandated apply only to in-conference games, so we have no official word on Weigman’s status if it has indeed been updated. Mike Elko himself has kept mum on the whole thing, but he did mention that Conner was able to throw some in practice this past week.

He also mentioned, though, that quarterback would be a game-time decision moving forward—either gamesmanship or quietly acknowledging that this is a more significant injury than has been let on. We’ll keep a close eye on that situation, as will the entire fanbase, going forward.

Other names of interest for the Aggies are now-starting center Koli Faaiu, who left last week’s game with a minor injury. TJ Shanahan filled in nicely for him, but if Faaiu is out, the Ags look pretty threadbare at center. Elko seemed positive on his prognosis during Monday’s presser, however.

He has a similar evaluation of S Trey Jones, who also missed the Florida game. Especially with Tyreek Chappell going down for the season, the depth the Ags have stockpiled on the back end looks to be a real asset right now. Hopefully Jones is locked in and ready to go for this game.

Scooby Williams was listed as questionable for last game, but ended up participating. He made a splash play, much to the chagrin of his former teammate Shemar James. I’d imagine he’d be ready to go as well, but there’s no official word on him.

The players with season-ending injuries for the Ags all remain out, obviously. The aforementioned Tyreek Chappell, Mark Nabou, and Rueben Owens currently make up that contingent. Hopefully, that number goes no higher than three over the rest of the season.
