Following quick exit from Aggieland, former Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle issues statement

For those few Texas A&M baseball fans still holding out some hope about the litany of reports regarding Jim Schlossnagle's departure being incorrect or misinformed, things look about as official as they will get from the Aggie side of things. Both AD Trev Alberts and Schlossnagle himself have now released statements about the coach's departure.

Pursuant to my earlier article, the statement from Alberts certainly appears as though there was not much dialogue between the two parties once the team arrived back in College Station, despite earlier reports that A&M brass would attempt to convince Schlossnagle to stay. Alberts says that Schlossnagle simply "informed" him of the desire to leave, following the return of the baseball team to College Station.

Schlossnagle also had a statement released through the athletic department.

"I would liek to thank General Welsh, Trev Alberts, and the 12th Man for an incredible experience during my time at Texas A&M. Although I know many will be upset with my decision, I chose to make a change to join a longtime friend to continue my career as a college baseball coach. The run to the National Championship game was truly a remarkable one this year, and I will savor the memories and true friendships I have made there for a lifetime."

These words no doubt ring extremely hollow for the 12th Man he mentions in the statement. You need look no further than the replies to the above tweet to see that much.

I do find it odd that this was released at all, in fact. Once it was certain that he was departing, why disseminate any more communications from him via official channels? That's a small gripe in the grand scheme of things, but it's something that struck me.

We will continue to react to this news and where Texas A&M goes from here throughout the evening and into tomorrow.
